MRSA
MRSA is a bacterium that lives on the skin. Whilst it is generally only harmful to those with weakened immune systems, it can also affect those with stronger immune systems. It tends to infect those either on a drip or with open wounds and is most commonly contracted in hospital. It is fully treatable with access to the right drugs but, nonetheless, around 1,000 people a year die because of it.
MRSA can be avoided by maintaining a high standard of hygeine in hospitals, which essentially means that medical staff and visitors should always have to wash their hands before entering wards and that also, wards should be disinfected often.
